Ivry-sur-le-Lac, April 15, 2025 – CONSERVATION MANITOU is pleased to announce that it has been gifted 242 acres of land by the McCall family, comprised of forests, wetlands, streams, and mountains. This charitable bequest from the Estate of the late Sheila McCall (Morris), and in keeping with the wishes of the late David McCall, represents a significant addition to Conservation Manitou’s land holdings. The gifted land includes such landmarks as Arthur’s Seat and Reid Lake, and is directly adjacent to the Lac de la Loutre (aka Atwater Lake) Reserve forming a large contiguous protected area of over 500 acres.
“We are extremely grateful to the McCall family for this precious gift of nature. The McCall’s have a deep tradition of conservation beginning with David McCall’s father Alan, who accumulated large tracts of land around Lake Manitou to preserve its unique natural environment,” states Stephen Takacsy, Chair of Conservation Manitou. “We are honored that the McCall family has placed their trust in us to protect this beautiful heritage wilderness area which provides a vital habitat for moose and other wildlife.”
