Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, June 27, 2024 – CONSERVATION MANITOU is pleased to announce that it has purchased 13.4 acres on the south side of Lac de la Loutre (a.k.a. Atwater Lake) from the Adib family. This eco-sensitive area, frequented by moose and containing important wetlands and streams, is located only a few meters from Atwater Lake and was threatened by a residential development. “We are happy to have reached an agreement with the Adib family which benefits all stakeholders.” states Stephen Takacsy, Chair of Conservation Manitou. “Residents of the neighboring community of Lac Groulx (a.k.a Lac Castor) united to help us preserve this land and increase our protection of Atwater Lake, which at the same time protects the Lac Groulx watershed. We welcome them as new members of Conservation Manitou and thank them for their financial support alongside several of our long-time members who also donated to this important cause. This acquisition expands our Atwater Lake Reserve to over 260 acres and further preserves the beauty and tranquility of Atwater Lake and its ecosystem.”
